Natasha Kingsley

Natasha is a very practical and logical person, who believes that anything may be proven eventually. To her, if something can't be proven, it cannot exist. She still appears somewhat moony at times, usually when getting lost in thought about the universe. She doesn't believe in the idea of love, until she meets Daniel. Natasha becomes more and more sentimental and content with love, until she is deported together with her family. When they meet again after a long time, Natasha has found her true passion as an X in the US and is ready to be with Daniel.

The seemingly dreamiest person alive sees the world as a giant stage and everyone has got their role in it. He gets told by a subway driver to wait for a sign of fate, which he promptly does when he sees Natasha. Daniel tries to convince her that both fate and love exist and becomes inspired by Natasha's personality. His parents are very strict and want him to become a doctor, despite his own wishes. He doesn't get along well with his brother Charlie either, they fight a lot and even get physical. Despite this, he fervidly pursues his passion for poetry.

While his parents believe at first that could stop the deportation, he himself is thrilled to move to Jamaica, which does it's part to convince his parents to return to Jamaica. When he gets there, he finds a true sense of community, in which he thrives and prospers.

The singlehanded supporter of the Kingsley family, after her husbands dreams of becoming an actor failed. She got drawn in by Samuels own illusions of becoming a great Broadway actor but after they emigrated to the U.S. she quickly returns to the firm ground of reality. She is not happy in the U.S. and wishes to return home. When she tries to convince Natasha of giving up her life in New York, it divides them further. She can't understand what New York means to Natasha and sides with her father.

Unlucky artist, actor and a father. Combining these roles into one person seems a daunting task and nobody could claim the are perfect at it. Samuel does his very best at raising their daughter, even when he gets rejected again and again in various auditions. Disillusioned, he sees no future for his family in the U.S. and decides to leave. The personal wishes of Natasha he views as childish, he doesn't understand her passion for math. However, he never acts with ill intent.

Natasha's last line of defense against her deportation. When she contacts him, he ensures her she can win and stop the deportaion in time. Unfortunately for Natasha, he instead of helping her, he spends his time with his paralegal Hannah. When they meet again, he has to tell her that there was nothing he could do, and convieniently leaves the true reason out. When Daniel meets him for his Yale interview, Jeremy tells him to mess up while he's young and tries to give him a piece of life advice.

Charlie is Daniels abrasive older brother. He fights with Daniel a lot, because he feels like he gets more love from their parents than him. He is furthermore so ashamed Korean heritage, to the point that he drops his Korean middle-name. His parents are extremely upset at him for withdrawing from Havard for a few semesters, increasing the tension at home. He does however still like his borther enough to help Natasha contact him when she needs to, showing that he isn't such a bad person after all.

The immigrated South Korean moved to the U.S. to escape the life of an iompoverished crab-fisher. Together with his wife Min Soo Bae, they opened a black hair care store. Because he doesn't wish the same impoverished life that he once had, he pushes his sons to take prestigious careers, first study at Havard, then become doctors. He doesn't accept that Daniel doesn't wish to become a doctor and threatens to withdraw further financial assistance, damaging their relationship.

Min is appearently Daniel's only ally, though she supports her husband's dreams of their sons becoming doctors, she is much less strict about it. Min lets her sons embrace both their Korean and their American identity, because she knows how important it is to know "where one came from and where they are going". She is a skilled painter and even gifts Daniel an oil painting set, which causes him to speculate that Min sometimes regrets being married, because she can't follow her passion.

He received an undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and is an active supporter of social movements such as the LGBTQ+ community. In 2011 he ran the ING NYC Marathon in support of All for Africa's "Palm out Poverty" initiative.

He is best known for his role as series regular Miggy on the ABC comedy Single Parents (2018) and also starred in Front Cover (2015), an LGBTQ independent film. In 2018, Choi came out as sexually fluid. In an interview with The Advocate he stated:
"I feel like a lot of people understand it better if you just say ‘bisexual,’ which is not the same thing, but it's like sometimes when people say, ‘Oh, so you’re bi?’ I don't even want to argue anymore. It's just like, 'Yeah — sure.' I feel like the term pansexual is a little bit closer. With me, I say fluid because it's always changing.”
